Round Two!

Of edits, that is.  I just finished my first run-through on this second series of edits on Hunting Medusa

My shiny new cover art! isn't it pretty?

My shiny new cover art! isn’t it pretty?

and I’ll take one more pass through it tomorrow before I send it back to my editor.  You know what I’ve realized as I’ve been working on these edits the past few weeks? I still really, really love this story.

For those of you at all familiar with publishing, you’ll know it’s a slow business.  I first wrote this story three and a half years ago.  We had just closed the Borders Express where I was working, and I had a two month period of no day-job while I waited for my former BE boss to make me a spot in the bigger Borders SuperStore right across the street from the mall where we’d worked.  I’d been kicking the idea around for even longer in my head, so when I was able to sit down and write, the first draft came quickly.  I finished it in the first month I was unemployed.  Of course it was rough, but the story you’ll get to see in another five months was basically there, just in need of some polishing.

Sometimes after you’ve spent so much time with a story and its characters, you get tired of it and them.  I know if I finish a manuscript and dive right into revisions that take a while, I get sick of the characters, hate the story, and generally think the whole thing sucks.  I don’t think I’ve ever felt that way about this story.  Or maybe I just don’t remember feeling that way about this story now.

Whichever it is, I am getting very excited that the release date is getting closer.  I can hardly wait for you all to meet Andi and Kallan, and I really hope you all fall in love with them, too.

Now it’s time to catch a little sleep before I make sure I haven’t missed anything that needs fixed.  Then I can have something yummy and decadent to celebrate finishing this round.

How about you?  What are you celebrating this week?
